Who We Are

We are two sisters, Sherry and Dana, and we love our furry friends! Well, we love all our friends actually, regardless of fur, feathers, scales, or otherwise as the case may be!

And we’ve always gone around rescuing everything in need – sick animals, unwanted animals, stray animals, feral animals, wild animals... And a few humans along the way too! But, mostly it was the ones with waggy tails – dogs that is!

Eventually, in November 2012 we set up Happy Halfway Home (or “HHH” for short) in order to rehabilitate and try and find homes for rescue dogs suffering from long-term behavioural problems, which would otherwise prevent them from being adopted successfully.

What We Do

We take in dogs that no one seems to want, for whatever reasons...

They live with us in a home environment as a natural pack, with us as the ‘pack leaders’ (that’s “Mummy”, my sister Sherry, “Auntie”, yours truly, Dana, and “Daddy”, my brother-in-law, Sherry’s husband Peter!)

We work with the dogs using methods we’ve developed from experience, lots of research, and guidance from professional dog psychologists.

We never hit our dogs, or use any sort of physical force on them. Instead, we help our dogs with gentle persuasion, leadership, plenty of rewards (tasty treats – Yum!) and lots and lots of praise (and cuddles of course!)

Where We Need Help

We are totally un-funded and finance everything out of our own pockets.

And while Happy Halfway Home started out primarily just as a rehabilitation centre for rescue dogs with issues, it has since also become a sanctuary for the dogs that have either long-term health issues, or disabilities, elderly dogs, or those with behavioural issues that prevented them from getting adopted.

Looking after these dogs is a 24-hour job, and with just three of us here – my sister Sherry, her husband Peter, and me, Dana – we are constantly run off our feet.

So volunteer help is always needed, whether it's to take the dogs for walks, mucking in with the daily chores, babysitting, or ferrying the dogs to and from the vet.

If you would like to help - please get in touch with us through the "Contact" page.

If you would like to donate, we will be extremely grateful – you can donate using Paypal or with a debit / credit card from the "Donate" page.

All donations are very, very gratefully received – no matter how small.

It costs a considerable amount of money looking after the individual needs of sick, or disabled dogs; some require special diets, most are on expensive medication and some are extremely destructive and constantly rip up their beds and bedding so it has to be replaced regularly.

So, we look forward to hearing from you. In the meantime, on behalf of our dogs – and those we hope to rescue in the future – all good wishes to you.

Sherry, Dana, Peter, and the HHH pack (Woof! Woof! Woof!)
